Bioenergetics in life-history trade-off

Since the amount of energy animals can access throughout their lifespan is limited, different life-history traits has been hypothesized to be negatively correlated with each other bioenergetically.

Is that true? Does energy-costly adaptation for one life-history trait always harmful for other life-history traits? Can it be beneficial?

Currently, our lab is using both whole organism and mitochondrial bioenergetics to unveil the bioenergetic adaptations for different life-history traits and more importantly, the relationship between different traits.
